Ancient Egyptian and Ancient Mesopotamian Achievements

Description

We will be studying the achievements of the ancient civilizations of Egypt and Mesopotamia.  Focus on their government, writing systems, medicine, architecture, agriculture, economy and any other important achievements.  The students will write an argument piece at the end of their study about which society had greater achievements and why.

Key Questions

What were some of the greatest achievements of ancient Egypt?

 

What were some of the greatest achievements of ancient Mesopotamia?

 

How did these achievements help their society?

 

How long did each civilization last?  What made each civilization so strong?

Outcomes

Some of the greatest achievements of both societies and how those achievements help their society grow and become more powerful.

Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs

My 1st and 2nd grade gifted and talented classes are studying Ancient Egypt.  We would love to find someone who could help teach us about Ancient Egyptian writing (hieroglyphs/hieroglypics), while also demonstrating how to understand this system of writing and the importance of translating Egyptian hieroglyphs, too.

We are currently learning about Ancient Civilizations. We want students to learn about the traits that help determine if a group of people is considered a civilization. They have learned about early people and how they have progressed to working as a community to help solve problems such as irrigation, defense, etc.
